Sanwo-Olu spent N1bn to hire helicopters in one month – Rhodes-Vivour

AGS NEWS – Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who ran for governor under the Labour Party in Lagos State in 2023, has criticized Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for allegedly spending excessively on helicopter services.

Rhodes-Vivour claims that Sanwo-Olu spent a staggering N1,039,875,000 on helicopter charters in April 2022 alone.

He alleges that the governor allocated another N512,000,000 for the same service in July and August 2023.

Rhodes-Vivour questioned the rationale behind such lavish spending on helicopter travel for the governor when significant parts of Lagos, particularly Lagos Island, lack access to clean water.

He emphasized that nearly N2 billion was spent in three months on these helicopter services, which could have been allocated to more pressing needs such as providing basic amenities like clean water.

Rhodes-Vivour proposed alternative solutions, suggesting that a government led by him would utilize drones instead of helicopters for project supervision, thus saving state resources.

He further pointed out that with the funds spent on helicopter services, the government could have paid the salaries of 1,000 teachers at N100,000 monthly for a year, contributing to the improvement of the education system in Lagos.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Gboyega Akosile, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls and text messages.
