Edo state police arrest two fake inspectors, others over N20m drugs

AGS NEWS – The Edo State Police Command has apprehended two individuals posing as police inspectors in connection with a drug trafficking operation valued at N20 million.

Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye revealed this development to reporters in Benin City, disclosing that the suspects were part of a five-man criminal syndicate specializing in illicit drug trade.

Identified as Alex Akaeze, aged 39, and Kadiri Hassan, aged 45, the fake police officers were arrested alongside Ovie Samuel, Stanley Itota, and Felix Oputi at a guest house owned by Samuel on Colobus Street, Benin City. The seized illicit drug, known as ‘ice,’ weighed 1,080 kilograms.

Commissioner Adegboye stated that investigations are ongoing, with plans to arraign the suspects in court soon.

In an interview, Akaeze claimed to have joined the police force in 2009 and served in various capacities before being transferred to Zamfara State.

Hassan echoed similar sentiments, stating his enlistment in 2008 and pending transfer to Alagbon, Lagos State.

However, Ovie Samuel, the alleged supplier of the drugs, denied any involvement in the illicit trade, alleging that he was misled by the fake inspectors.
