Troops neutralize 188 terrorists, apprehend 330 in recent operations

AGS NEWS – Last week’s military operations in Northern Nigeria resulted in significant gains against terrorism, with at least 188 militants eliminated and 330 apprehended.

133 individuals who had been kidnapped were rescued by troops deployed nationwide. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed these achievements in a statement issued on Friday.

He emphasized the military’s commitment to decisively combating terrorism and ensuring citizens’ safety, stating that recent successes have bolstered their position in the ongoing fight against insurgents.

In efforts to curb oil theft, 36 suspects were arrested, and stolen crude oil valued at N637 million was recovered.

Troops in the Niger Delta region dismantled 51 dugout pits, 24 boats, 21 storage tanks, and 4 vehicles, while seizing various illegal refining equipment and significant quantities of stolen crude oil and refined products.

The statement also highlighted the recovery of 270 weapons and 5,083 rounds of ammunition, along with the confiscation of vehicles, motorcycles, communication devices, and cash.

These operations build upon earlier successes in the first quarter of 2024, during which thousands of terrorists were neutralized, hostages rescued, and substantial amounts of stolen crude oil were recovered.
