Widow allegedly beaten to death by stepson in Anambra

AGS NEWS – The Anambra State Government has initiated an inquiry into the alleged killing of a 69-year-old widow, Ifeoma Philomena Ajuluchukwu, reportedly by her stepson.

The State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

The widow purportedly succumbed to injuries inflicted by her stepson, Chiugo Emmanuel Ajuluchukwu, at her residence in Ojoto, Idemili South council area.

The investigation was prompted after the deceased’s son, Onyebuchi Christopher Ajuluchukwu, reached out to the ministry, detailing the events leading to his mother’s demise.

According to him, the stepbrother allegedly subjected their mother to brutality, escalating to a fatal assault while she was unwell.

Onyebuchi Ajuluchukwu urged the government to intervene and ensure justice for his late mother, as well as restore peace in their family.

Commissioner Obinabo assured him of swift action and emphasized that mistreatment of widows is unlawful and will be treated as a criminal offense. She urged the public to report any criminal activities for the state’s welfare.
