Niger assembly demands 18 hour electricity supply

AGS NEWS – The Niger State House of Assembly is adamant that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) must ensure the provision of electricity for 18 hours daily, or else the state will explore alternative power sources.

The assembly recently summoned AEDC to clarify the reasons behind the inconsistent power supply to Niger State.

During the session, lawmakers accused AEDC of violating its contractual obligations with the state government regarding power supply.

They criticized the company for neglecting its corporate social responsibility to the people of the state and highlighted instances where the community had to bear the financial burden of electrical facilities.

As a result, the assembly unanimously agreed that if AEDC fails to meet the stipulated 18-hour electricity supply, the contract between the state and the company will be terminated, allowing the state to seek alternative electricity providers.
