WAEC unveils WASSCE-CBT results for private candidates

AGS NEWS – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has announced the results of the inaugural Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, 2024–First Series.

This marked a transition from traditional paper-based exams to computer-based ones for private candidates, as stated in a release by the council.

The new CB-WASSCE involved projecting all questions on computer screens, with candidates providing real-time answers to multiple-choice questions on the computer while writing essay and practical test answers in booklets.

The exam took place from January 31 to February 17, 2024, with 8,139 candidates participating. Of these, 3,424 candidates, representing 42.07%, achieved credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.

2,519 candidates, amounting to 30.95%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

The coordination and marking of scripts were conducted across three venues in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna from March 1 to 16, 2024, with 459 examiners involved.

Despite a slight decrease in entry figures compared to 2023, the exam saw candidates with special needs, including visually challenged, hearing impaired, and albinos, who were adequately supported during the examination.
