Man dies after falling from moving train on his way to ‘Death Island’

AGS NEWS – Ryan Joseph Ralph, a 24-year-old backpacker, met a tragic fate after falling from a moving train bound for Koh Tao, Thailand’s notorious “Death Island.”

Traveling with his British girlfriend, Shona Morgan, 22, Ryan boarded the overnight train from Bangkok on March 20.

During the journey, Ryan left Shona asleep and went to the end of the carriage for a cigarette.

He sustained injuries from a fall off the train, which caused him to be briefly dragged along the tracks.

His lifeless body was discovered the next day under a newly constructed platform at the Chet Samian Railway Station in Ratchaburi province.

Authorities believe Ryan fell from the moving train and was struck by part of the concrete platform before dragging himself underneath to avoid being run over.

Despite his efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and died from blood loss.

Shona raised the alarm when she woke up and found Ryan missing. She notified police when she couldn’t locate him.

Despite search efforts using Ryan’s phone GPS, his body wasn’t found until the next day under the platform at the railway station.

Cambodian rail worker Makala, 23, discovered Ryan’s body and informed his supervisor.

Authorities suspect insufficient lighting and the close proximity of the platform to the tracks contributed to the accident.

Ryan, who had been in Thailand since February 17, was commemorating his birthday with Shona before the tragic incident.

His body underwent a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Institute, and authorities notified the Canadian Embassy to inform Ryan’s family of his untimely death.
