AGS NEWS – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed strong condemnation over the recent tragic killing of soldiers on a peacekeeping mission in Okuama Community, Delta State.
Speaking at a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, conveyed condolences to the Army and other security agencies affected by the loss.

Professor Yakubu emphasized the importance of a swift investigation leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the heinous act.
He highlighted ongoing engagements with stakeholders, including security agencies, to address electoral security concerns and finalize remaining elections disrupted by violence.
The Chairman outlined plans for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, scheduled for September and November 2024, respectively.

He stressed the need for early security preparations, citing the successful conduct of previous elections in Edo and Ondo states as models to replicate.
