Court detains Miyetti Allah leader, sets trial date for may 27

AGS NEWS – Justice Inyang Ekwo, presiding over a Federal High Court in Abuja, has directed the remand of Bello Bodejo, the leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group, in the custody of the Department of State Services (DIA).

Bodejo’s remand follows his arraignment on Friday before Justice Ekwo.

He was apprehended on January 23 at the Miyetti Allah’s office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State concerning the establishment of a vigilante group.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), filed a motion ex parte on February 5, seeking Bodejo’s remand pending the conclusion of the investigation and his arraignment.

Upon the expiration of the remand order, Justice Ekwo instructed the DIA to either arraign Bodejo or grant him bail.

However, Bodejo was brought to court by the DIA, accompanied by heavily armed personnel.

The Federal Government charged Bodejo with three counts of terrorism, alleging that he established the group without authorization and provided logistical support to 1,000 men.

Despite pleading not guilty, Bodejo’s bail application was contested by the prosecution, who argued that the trial was ready to proceed with two witnesses.
