AGS NEWS – Police in Haiti have initiated operations to regain control of the capital city from the feared ‘Barbecue’ gang leader.
Today, an official confirmed that Haitian cops conducted an operation in Port-au-Prince, targeting a neighborhood controlled by notorious gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, also known as ‘Barbecue,’ resulting in the deaths of several criminals.
Lionel Lazarre, representing the Haitian police union, reported that national police units entered the Delmas neighborhood on Friday evening to clear a roadblock.

While the operation resulted in the deaths of multiple ‘bandits,’ further details were not disclosed.
In a separate operation this morning, officers attempted to regain control of the capital’s main port.
According to a source at the port, gang members had previously looted several containers in the area, leading to ongoing violence and the closure of the port since March 7.
The escalation of violence in Haiti began earlier this month after Prime Minister Ariel Henry agreed to hold general elections in mid-2025.
Armed gangs have since engaged in looting, closed the main airport, and facilitated prison escapes, plunging the country into chaos.
