Senate sets six weeks deadline for probe into N30tn CBN loans

AGS NEWS – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged the members of the investigative panel looking into the N30 trillion “Ways and Means” loans obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria under Godwin Emefiele’s leadership by the Federal Government not to overlook any aspect of their inquiry.

The panel has also been tasked with scrutinizing the over N1 trillion Anchor Borrower Programme initiated during the previous administration.

During the inauguration of the 17-member Ad-hoc Committee in Abuja on Monday, Akpabio emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation and instructed the committee to complete their work within six weeks.

He advised the lawmakers to prioritize national interests over personal or political agendas and to conduct their duties with fairness and integrity.

Acknowledging the sensitivity of the investigation, Akpabio emphasized the importance of engaging with relevant stakeholders and maintaining confidentiality until the conclusion of the inquiry.

He stressed the Senate’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
