AGS NEWS – The deepening economic hardship and hunger in Nigeria have taken a troubling turn, with reports emerging of widespread looting of warehouses and trucks carrying food commodities in major cities nationwide.
Daily Post reveals a surge in incidents of warehouse and truck looting by hoodlums over the past few days.
Between last Sunday and Monday, residents of Idu-Karmo and Dei-Dei in the capital city, Abuja, were reported to have looted warehouses and trucks, making off with food items.
In one instance, residents of Abuja raided a warehouse owned by the Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, stealing rice, grains, and other relief items.
Meanwhile, an attempt to loot a private warehouse in the Idu Industrial Estate, Jabi, Abuja, was thwarted by soldiers.
Similar incidents occurred in Dogarawa, a suburb of Zaria in Kaduna State, where residents looted cartons of spaghetti from a truck belonging to BUA Company.
Youths were reported to have stolen food items from trucks stuck in traffic along the Kaduna Road in the Suleja area of Niger State.

Government officials have condemned the looting, with the Federal Capital Territory Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, describing it as a criminal act.
