Sokoto commissioners appeal for official vehicles

AGS NEWS – As state governors across Nigeria prepare to mark their first year in office, Sokoto State commissioners are urging their governors to enhance the dignity of their offices and streamline their duties by providing and utilizing official vehicles.

Investigations by AGS NEWS reveal that the plea from Sokoto State commissioners may be justified, as it’s observed that none of them have been assigned official vehicles to aid them in their official responsibilities.

Our correspondent in the state, who closely monitored the situation, found that the commissioners, appointed by Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto about eight months ago, have been relying on their personal vehicles for official duties.

Although none of the commissioners were willing to speak openly, some agreed to share their concerns anonymously, citing the impact of the absence of official vehicles on their duties.

One commissioner acknowledged that the lack of official vehicles severely affects the smooth functioning of his office, attributing the delay to the governor’s probe panel investigating the previous administration’s mismanagement, including the disappearance of government properties and vehicles.

“I can’t deny that I’m affected. It’s affecting my duties,” the commissioner admitted, adding that he often has to borrow cars from friends for state events and functions.

He explained, “The previous administrations engaged in questionable practices, such as misappropriation of government properties, including vehicles. We are suffering the consequences of their actions.”
