Kaduna court sentences two internet fraudsters to prison

AGS NEWS – The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully prosecuted and obtained the conviction of Mohammed Nasir Sadeeq and Daniel John for their involvement in cheating by impersonation.

This verdict was delivered by Justice A. A Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court.

In a statement shared on the EFCC’s official platform on Friday, March 1, it was revealed that both individuals faced separate one-count charges related to cheating and personation.

The charges stemmed from their actions in impersonating others for fraudulent purposes, particularly in online Bitcoin investment schemes on Instagram.

The court found John guilty of impersonating a Bitcoin online investor agent under the alias Jamie Doman, through which he deceived unsuspecting individuals and obtained $200 (Two Hundred Dollars).

Justice Isiaka sentenced John to one year in prison or a fine option of N150,000.

He forfeited his iPhone 12 and Samsung Galaxy 10, which were identified as proceeds of his criminal activities, to the government.

Similarly, Sadeeq was convicted for his role in cheating a victim out of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, with an alternative fine of N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira).

The arrests of the convicted individuals occurred at Fifth Chukker, Maraban Jos, Kaduna State, following investigations that revealed John’s use of various foreign identities to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
