Elon Musk files lawsuit against OpenAI over alleged microsoft affiliation

AGS NEWS – Elon Musk, co-founder of OpenAI, has initiated legal action against the organization, alleging a deviation from its original principles established in 2015.

The lawsuit, also naming OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, asserts that the company has strayed from its initial non-profit, open-source objectives to prioritize profit generation, particularly benefiting major investor Microsoft.

Originally conceived to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the betterment of humanity, OpenAI is accused of shifting focus towards profit maximization, contrary to its founding ethos.

Musk’s legal team contends that this transformation violates the conditions under which he, along with Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman, agreed to establish OpenAI.

Musk’s departure from the organization occurred three years after its inception.

The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, aims to compel OpenAI to uphold its founding agreement and return to its mission of AGI development for societal benefit.

It follows reports of regulatory scrutiny into OpenAI’s governance and investor disclosures, prompted by internal conflicts in November 2023.

These events saw Altman temporarily removed from the board, highlighting Microsoft’s increasing influence within the organization.

The lawsuit further alleges that OpenAI’s latest AI model, GPT-4, was developed under a shroud of secrecy driven by commercial interests rather than safety concerns.

Musk’s legal team seeks various outcomes from the lawsuit, including public disclosure of information related to OpenAI’s AI developments.
