Oluremi Tinubu calls for closing gender gaps, advocates stakeholder action

AGS NEWS – Oluremi Tinubu has called for concerted efforts to address gender disparities hindering the progress of girls and women.

She made this plea during her address at the 28th General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

oluremi emphasized that closing the gender gap is not merely an act of kindness but a matter of justice.

She spoke about the crucial role of education in empowering girls, enabling them to acquire skills and access information vital for their health and future choices.

Speaking on the assembly’s theme, “Educate Her and Transform Africa: Enhancing Access to Health and Education for the 21st Century African Women and Girls,” Tinubu stressed its relevance in advancing the continent’s prosperity.

She spoke on the interconnectedness of education and health, noting that education empowers individuals and communities, ultimately impacting health outcomes.

AGS NEWS reports that oluremi also lamented societal barriers such as early marriage, childbearing, sexual violence, and poverty that impede girls’ access to education in Nigeria and across the world.

She explained that the initiative aims to provide a second chance for girls who dropped out of school due to various reasons, including early pregnancies, economic hardship, or cultural biases, enabling them to pursue and complete their education goals while acquiring valuable skills and empowerment.
