Tinubu set to depart for AU summit in Ethiopia on thursday

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart from Abuja to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, on Thursday to participate in the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.

According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu will engage in high-level meetings focusing on institutional reforms of the African Union, as well as discussions on peace and security alongside other African leaders.

AGS NEWS reports that the summit, themed “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,” will also see Tinubu addressing specific thematic issues such as climate change and the AU’s involvement and priorities in the G20.

Additionally, Tinubu, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will attend an extraordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS on the sidelines of the AU session.

Accompanied by ministers and other government officials, Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after the summit.

This visit marks Tinubu’s fourth to an African state since assuming the presidency nine months ago and adds to his tally of 15 foreign destinations and 11 trips, including visits to Paris, London, Bissau, Nairobi, Porto Norvo, New Delhi, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, New York, Riyadh, and Berlin.
