NBA Urges Tinubu: Declare state of emergency on insecurity

In a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), called upon President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency to address the pervasive insecurity gripping various parts of the nation.

Maikyau emphasized the need for proactive measures to combat insecurity while preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty, urging for strategic investments in security aligned with global standards.

He highlighted the dire consequences of insecurity, including displacement of citizens and destruction of businesses, leading to a loss of faith in the Federal Government’s ability to tackle the crisis.

Expressing concern over dwindling economic conditions and the devaluation of the national currency, Maikyau urged for transparent plans and decisive action from the government to revive the economy.

AGS NEWS reports that he stressed the importance of government-citizen engagement to restore confidence and resilience in the face of economic challenges.

Maikyau warned of legal action against the Federal Government if the Enhanced Trade Investment agreement with the United Kingdom is not revised. He criticized the potential adverse impact on local businesses and vowed to challenge the agreement in court to safeguard Nigerian interests.
