Court orders detention of 13 suspects in Kwara monarch’s killing

Magistrate Court in Ilorin made a decisive move by ordering the remand of the individuals believed to be responsible for the tragic death of Olukoro of Koro, Oba Segun Aremu-Cole (rtd), hailing from the Ekiti local government area of Kwara state.

The suspects, identified as Godwin Jacob, Olowofela Oyebanji, Adefalolu Ayodele, Tewasie Francis, Babatunde Samuel, Godwin Joseph, Issa Number, Miracle Solomon, Abraham Kehinde, Muhammed Bello, Muhammed Muhammed, Ahmadu Umaru, and Muhammed Dankai, from various addresses in Ekiti State, were brought before the court on charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping, and providing false information.

The case was initiated after a report by Aremu Simon Adeyemi to the Eruku Police Division, where he described an encounter with the suspects.

Adeyemi stated that the suspects, armed with a firearm, attempted to coerce him into following them.

AGS NEWS reports that Adeyemi’s grandson managed to escape, prompting the suspects to proceed with the fatal attack on the monarch and the abduction of his wife and another individual named Mercy.

Prosecutor Abdullah Sanni presented the police report to the court, along with a motion ex parte, urging the court to order the suspects’ remand.

In response, Magistrate Monisola Kamson ruled in favor of the motion, directing the suspects to be remanded at the federal correctional center. The case has been adjourned to March 5, 2024, for further proceedings.
