Gunmen launched an assault on Monday targeting a Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) Farm Settlement situated in Umualomoke community, within the Okigwe local government area of Imo State, resulting in the escape of seven inmates.

According to Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the state police command, the assailants also seized an officer who was in charge of the farm settlement, while a police inspector tragically lost his life during the attack.

In addition to the prison break, the gunmen also raided the residence of Patrick Ndubeze, the lawmaker representing Imo North Senatorial District in the same area.
