Rema becomes first African artist to win Chinese music award

Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made history by becoming the first African artist to clinch a prestigious Chinese music award.

Rema achieved this remarkable feat when his collaboration, the ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring American superstar Selena Gomez, secured the title of Best Collaboration of the Year at the 2024 Hito Music Award in the Republic of China.

The award, presented by Hit FM, Taiwan, and hosted by DJ Andy, marks a significant milestone for Rema, placing him alongside American and British artists who have previously received accolades at the Taiwanese award ceremony.

Among the distinguished international artists honored at the event, American global pop sensation Taylor Swift stands out, having amassed over six awards, cementing her status as one of the most celebrated figures in the history of the Hito Music Awards.
