Olaiya Igwe, a veteran Yoruba actor, has publicly apologized to Nigerians for his controversial act of going naked to pray for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.

This apology comes amidst the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians, which many attribute to President Tinubu’s policies.

Olaiya Igwe faced backlash after his nude prayer gesture at the beach in 2023 in support of Tinubu’s victory. In a video titled “Apologies to All My Fans,” shared on his YouTube page, the actor explained that he acted based on what he believed was a divine revelation.

Acknowledging the anger and disappointment from Nigerians, Olaiya expressed regret for his actions, admitting that his support for Tinubu may have contributed to the hardship in the country.

He emphasized that Nigerians’ suffering and dissatisfaction with the current situation prompted his apology.

Olaiya urged Tinubu to take proactive steps to address the unmet expectations of Nigerians, suggesting the appointment of a monitoring team to ensure that promises made to citizens are fulfilled.

His apology follows similar expressions of discontent from other prominent figures, such as musician Kwam 1, who is known for his support of Tinubu, regarding the prevailing hardship in Nigeria.
