Woman arrested for alleged trafficking of 42 children

A 45-year-old woman, Alimot Haruna, has been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly smuggling 42 northern children into Lagos without parental consent, with the intent to force them into child labor and trafficking.

The incident reportedly took place on January 25 around 5:45 pm.

Detectives, monitoring Alimot’s movements, rescued three underage children – two females and one male – whose name remains unconfirmed.

It was revealed that Alimot was wanted by the Kwara State Police Command in connection with numerous missing underage children linked to her syndicate.

The anti-human trafficking unit of the Kwara State Police Command had already recovered some children, leaving 11 still unaccounted for.

The suspect, in police custody, has admitted to the allegations and provided addresses where other children were kept, along with the names of their parents.

Efforts are underway to rescue the remaining eight children, with updates on their progress expected to be communicated.

Last year, the Kano State Police Command arrested nine suspects involved in inter-state trafficking, abduction, buying, and selling of minors.
