The Katsina Elders’ Forum has voiced its disagreement with the proposed transfer of essential projects, including the refurbishment of airport rescue and firefighting vehicles at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, to the southern part of Nigeria.
In a plea to President Tinubu to reconsider the move, the forum warned that the Nigerian leader could risk losing support from the Northern region in the 2027 elections if he proceeds with the relocation.

Following a closed-door meeting expressing concerns about the potential socio-economic consequences for Northern Nigeria, Aliyu Mohammed, the forum’s Secretary, accused certain individuals of offering misguided advice to President Tinubu, labeling them as enemies of the country seeking to undermine its unity.
Moreover, the forum accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of supporting the federal government’s plan to relocate critical projects and questioned the rationale behind inviting Israelis to provide security to Abuja.
Highlighting the urgency of addressing security challenges in the North, the elders emphasized that relocating vital departments to Lagos amid prevailing insecurity in the region would not garner Northern support for President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

The forum stated, “Therefore, we are telling Mr. President, as long as he is interested in coming back in 2027, as long as he is interested in the votes of the Northerners, to reverse these unconstitutional decisions. Whoever is advising him to take such decisions is an enemy of the country.”
