Confusion engulfed Desalu Street, Odo-Ona, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State when personnel from an undisclosed hospital left a sick woman, Blessing Ayeni, in front of her husband’s shop.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, January 19, 2024, as reported by the Nigerian Tribune.

Eyewitness Remilekun Tawose stated that the hospital officials claimed Blessing had been abandoned at their facility since the previous year.

Faced with what they deemed as no alternative, they brought her to her husband’s known address – his shop where he sells alcoholic drinks.

According to Tawose, the hospital representatives informed some residents that they had repeatedly approached the husband to take responsibility for Blessing’s medical bills, but received no positive response.

The hospital further claimed that Blessing’s immediate family initially visited but later ceased to do so, citing reasons unknown to the hospital authority.

As of the time of the report, Blessing remained on the ground in front of her husband’s shop, appearing frail under the scorching sun, while concerned residents could only watch helplessly.

Tawose mentioned, “The reason we don’t know what to do at the moment is that officials of the hospital told us that we should not move closer to the sick woman because the ailment she is suffering from is contagious.”
