British and American forces launched airstrikes on Iran-backed rebels in Yemen, targeting Houthi military facilities with warships, fighter jets, and submarines.
According to reports, the Royal Air Force (RAF) conducted precision strikes in response to recent Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea.
The UK Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, justified the action as self-defense, emphasizing the commitment to freedom of navigation and trade.

The operation involved coalition forces from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, with President Biden describing it as a successful blitz.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the strikes aimed to reduce the rebels’ capability to violate international law, specifically in response to their targeting of HMS Diamond and US Navy vessels.
The airstrikes hit multiple sites in Yemen, including those associated with Houthi drone and missile capabilities.
The Houthi rebels’ official media blamed the operation on “American aggression with British participation.”
Sunak warned that the UK would stand against Houthi aggression and urged de-escalation.
Defense Secretary Grant Shapps emphasized the duty to protect vessels and freedom of navigation, stating that the military action was necessary due to the significant threat posed by Houthi attacks on global trade and innocent lives.

The coordinated assault followed a final warning issued by the White House and partner nations to the Houthis to cease their campaign of drone and missile attacks on commercial ships.
