Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to face Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) star Francis Ngannou in a boxing match later this year, as confirmed by Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn on his official account.
Ngannou made waves in his professional boxing debut by knocking down World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Tyson Fury last October.

Despite Fury’s recovery and eventual victory on points via split decision, Ngannou is now gearing up to challenge another British heavyweight, Anthony Joshua.
Joshua, who is in the process of rebuilding his career after successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, and Ngannou have both signed a deal for a ten-round bout, which is scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Eddie Hearn confirmed the fight, stating on his account: “Tonight we confirm it’s a done deal! @anthonyjoshua v @francis_ngannou collide on a huge night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – press conference Jan 15 in London with full details dropping soon!”
The fight confirmation was also affirmed by English manager and promoter Frank Warren, who expressed excitement for the event: “Another historic night for @RiyadhSeason! Press conference and fight date news coming soon. Can’t wait for it all to get started!”

While the exact date of the fight is yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that March 9, the original date for Joshua’s supposed match against Deontay Wilder, is being considered.
Anthony Joshua enters this spectacle on the back of three victories in 2023, with his latest impressive win over Otto Wallin in December.
