Court retains tenant for beating his landlord in Abuja

A tenant, Chris Okoye, aged 44, is set to be remanded following an order from the Kabusa Grade I Area Court in Abuja after being accused of assaulting his landlord.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, issued the remand order on Friday, January 5, 2024, subsequent to hearing the defendant’s plea.

Residing at 2A Niger Avenue Villa Nova, Apo, the defendant faces charges of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, force, assault, and causing hurt. Despite the accusations, Chris Okoye entered a not guilty plea.

The court learned from the prosecutor, O.S. Osho, that the landlord, Mr. Ochengele Isaac, reported the incident at the Apo Police Station on January 3.

According to Mr. Osho, the defendant, along with his two children and an individual named Gideon (currently at large), assaulted the landlord, causing injuries.

The two children of the defendant and Gideon are currently evading arrest. The case has been adjourned until January 16, 2024, for further hearing.
