Police dismiss two officers for involvement in armed robbery and corruption

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, covering Lagos and Ogun States, AIG Ari Muhammed Ali, has issued the dismissal of AP. No. 279495 Inspector Sunday Adetoye and AP. No. 223521 Inspector Ogunleye Stephen.

The dismissal is based on charges of armed robbery, official corruption, and illegal duty.

According to a statement released by SP. UMMA TUNNI AYUBA, the Zone 2 PRO, the officers, already facing trial for a similar offense, were involved in an incident on November 23, 2023.

At approximately 2200hrs, they, along with three others, conducted an unauthorized search at the residence of Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday in Obada-Oko, Ogun State.

Armed with 2 SMG rifles and live ammunition, the officers, accompanied by two members of the Vigilante Group and a driver, made away with 5 iPhones, 1 Samsung smartphone, 1 Tecno smartphone, and 2 laptop computers.

The statement notes that the AIG has directed the dismissed officers to be charged to court alongside the civilians involved.

The statement also emphasized the importance of all officers and men of the force adhering to professionalism in the discharge of their duties, with a warning that anyone found wanting will be held accountable for their actions or inaction.
