Convicted offender launches violent attack on US judge during court hearing

A convicted criminal, Deobra Delone Redden, launched a violent attack on Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus during a hearing where she denied him bail.

The assault, captured in a video uploaded by Reuters, saw Redden springing up and jumping into the judge’s bench, resulting in injuries to both the judge and a courtroom marshal.

Witnesses revealed that a courtroom marshal suffered a dislocated shoulder and a severe cut on his forehead while attempting to remove Redden.

The court released a statement commending the heroic actions of the staff and law enforcement who subdued the defendant.

The incident has prompted a review of all protocols to ensure the safety of the judiciary, the public, and court employees.

Judge Holthus, along with the injured marshal, is currently under observation for the injuries sustained during the attack.

The Nevada attorney general’s office expressed well wishes for their swift recovery.

After being taken into custody, Redden faced new charges, including violence on a protected person, encompassing the judge and court staff.

The assault occurred while Redden was being sentenced for aggravated battery with substantial bodily harm.

Despite undergoing a mental evaluation and being deemed fit for trial, Redden has a history of serving time in Nevada prisons for a conviction related to domestic battery.
