Kogi lawmaker condemns Plateau massacre, calls for swift government action

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Natasha, representing Kogi Central senatorial district, has voiced deep sorrow in response to the recent surge of violence and fatalities in Plateau.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Lokoja by her Media Aide, Orogbonlo Israel, the senator characterized the killings as an “unacceptable tragedy.”

The Plateau Police Command confirmed on Tuesday that 96 individuals lost their lives, with 221 houses set ablaze during the attacks on Christmas Eve by unidentified gunmen.

However, State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, on the same day, reported an increase in the death toll to over 115 in the latest coordinated assaults on Plateau.

Expressing concern over the senseless and widespread violence, Senator Natasha called on the federal government and security agencies to take immediate action to prevent a recurrence of such atrocities.

Natasha stated, “I recognize that this is a challenging time to celebrate Christmas, knowing that lives are being lost without just cause.

I hereby demand the prompt arrest and prosecution of those responsible for these heinous acts in Plateau.”

The lawmaker urged the federal government to take decisive measures to prevent a repetition of such atrocities in the future.

Despite the somber circumstances, Senator Natasha extended condolences to the victims, the government, and the people of Plateau for the irreparable loss of lives and the destruction of property.

Her statement emphasized the need for urgent and concerted efforts to address the ongoing violence and bring those responsible to justice.
