Canadian woman describes herself as an “ecosexual and says she’s in an erotic relationship with an oak tree

Sonja Semyonova, a 45-year-old resident of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, has opened up about her unique and fulfilling relationship with a tree, expressing that it has alleviated her feelings of loneliness.

As a self-intimacy guide, Sonja claims that the emotional connection she experiences with the tree mirrors the fulfillment she has sought in human relationships.

Describing the profound connection, Sonja shared, “The presence I feel with the tree is what I’m looking for but that’s a fantasy with a person.

The feeling of being tiny and supported by something so solid. The feeling of not being able to fall.

I had been craving that rush of erotic energy that comes when you meet a new partner and that is not sustainable.”

Sonja, who identifies as an “ecosexual,” explained that during her daily walks in lockdown, she developed a special bond with a large oak tree near her home, leading to what she describes as “erotic” experiences in the summer of 2021.

While she emphasizes that she does not engage in physical acts with the tree, Sonja clarified that the feelings she derives from nature are distinct from traditional human sexuality.

“A big misconception is that ecosexuality means sex between people and nature; it’s a different way to explore the erotic,” she stated.

Sonja believes that recognizing and embracing one’s ecosexuality can contribute to a more symbiotic relationship with nature, potentially addressing climate issues.

She noted, “I believe that we could gain from having a more symbiotic relationship with nature, that relationship could definitely be erotic.”
