Bandits attacked Kurya village in Rabbah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the death of at least 12 individuals, including a woman, two of her children, and her daughter-in-law.
Yusuf Kurya, a resident of the affected community, recounted that the assailants struck on Sunday night, December 24, 2023, around 8:30 pm, launching a brutal assault on the village.

According to his account to Punch on Tuesday, the gunmen, numbering in large groups, engaged in indiscriminate shooting during the attack.
“In the process,” Yusuf Kurya stated, “they killed about 12 people, out of which four were burnt alive.
They abducted three women, and an unspecified number of animals were rustled during the incident.”
Responding to a distress call from the residents, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji were swiftly mobilized and pursued the bandits, resulting in the killing of some of the attackers.

Sokoto State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, confirmed the attack, indicating that, based on the latest information from the village, seven individuals had already been confirmed dead, with the possibility of the casualty figures increasing.
