A recently published 2023 report reveals that cybercriminals have successfully pilfered approximately $2 billion in cryptocurrencies through a series of cyberattacks.
The report, conducted by De.FI, the security firm overseeing the REKT database, emphasizes the persistent vulnerabilities within the cryptocurrency space and ongoing efforts to address these risks.

The dispersed nature of this amount across various incidents underscores the challenges within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.
De.FI’s report acknowledges that 2023 serves as a testament to the existing vulnerabilities and the progress made in addressing them.
It notes that despite a relatively muted interest in the space during the first half of the year due to an ongoing bear market, the cryptocurrency sector still faces significant security challenges.

The figure of $2 billion stolen in cryptocurrencies in 2023 represents a decrease compared to the 2022 record, which saw approximately $3.8 billion in crypto thefts.
