Tragedy struck on Tuesday along the Kaduna – Abuja Expressway as a lone accident claimed the lives of four individuals, leaving 59 others injured.
The incident involved a trailer (Iveco) with the registration number MKA 99YS.
According to the Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, the mishap occurred at Sabon Sara village along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway around 3.30 am.

Sector Commander Kabir Nadabo, confirming the incident, reported that combined rescue teams from RS1.113 Zhipe and RS1.17 Birnin Yero swiftly responded to the scene to conduct the rescue operation.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident may have resulted from overloading of goods and passengers, possibly exacerbated by driver fatigue.
Nadabo revealed that a total of 73 people were involved in the crash, with 59 sustaining injuries and unfortunately, four losing their lives.
The injured victims were promptly transported to St. Gerard and AP Smart Hospitals in Kaduna for medical attention, as revealed by Nadabo.
Expressing concern over the recurring accidents during the festive season, he highlighted the FRSC’s efforts to mitigate road traffic crashes and save lives.
To address the high incidence of auto accidents during festive periods, the FRSC has implemented various initiatives.
These initiatives include the establishment of roadside camps at Kakau and Rigachikun for prompt response to crashes, provision of standby ambulances at key locations along the expressway with trained personnel for first aid, increased awareness and sensitization campaigns for road users on general safety practices, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations, including the prosecution of drivers caught overloading their vehicles with goods or passengers.

Nadabo commended the state government and the media for their support in creating awareness to promote road safety.
He emphasized the collective responsibility to prioritize safety, urging collaboration with the FRSC to save lives and property on the roads.
