The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 75-year-old woman, Sekinat Soremekun, for engaging in the illegal drug trade in Lagos State.
The arrest occurred in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Friday, December 15, 2023, as disclosed by Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, in a statement issued on Sunday, December 17.
During the arrest, law enforcement recovered quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup from the 75-year-old woman.

Babafemi stated that she claimed her son, Segun, who is currently on the run, supplied her with the illicit substances for retail.
The statement emphasized, “Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Friday 15th December arrested a 75-year-old grandma, Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun for dealing in illicit drugs.
At the time of her arrest in Oshodi area of Lagos, quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup were recovered from her.
She claimed her son, Segun who is now at large supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed.”

Babafemi also quoted the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), urging the agency’s officers to heighten their efforts against drug cartels, especially with the approaching yuletide season, while maintaining a balance with their drug demand reduction initiatives.
