Former president and 79 others held in connection with failed coup attempt

Sierra Leone, local law enforcement has identified a total of 80 individuals as suspects, as revealed by William Fayia Sellu, the inspector general of the Sierra Leonean police.

The list includes former President Ernest Bai Koroma, aged 50, current military personnel, and five discharged military officers, among others.

Sellu announced at a press conference on Tuesday that the former president has been granted bail but is confined to his residence in Freetown, while the remaining 79 suspects are held in custody at the criminal investigations department.

The inspector general urged the public to provide valuable information leading to the apprehension of the remaining suspects who are still at large.

The events of November 26 saw armed individuals attacking a military barracks, a prison, and other locations in Freetown, resulting in more than 20 fatalities, later acknowledged by the government as a foiled coup.
