NDLEA arrest businessman with cocaine at Enugu airport

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully intercepted twelve consignments of cocaine at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu.

The illicit substances were linked to a Drug Trafficking Organization, and the interception resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old man, Augustine Justine Emeka.

Emeka, who claimed to be involved in the copper wire trade, was apprehended upon his arrival from Douala, Cameroon, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an Ethiopian airline.

The twelve consignments, containing a total of 797 pellets of cocaine, weighed 17.6 kilograms.

During initial questioning, the suspect confessed that the cocaine was intended for delivery to twelve different individuals within the country.

In a parallel development, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, arrested a fugitive, Onyejiuwa Prince Ifeanyi, on Friday, December 8.

Ifeanyi had been in hiding since September 8 following the seizure of a 20kg cannabis consignment destined for the United Kingdom.

The narcotics were concealed within tomato paste tins at the SAHCO shed, and investigators linked the operation to Ifeanyi.

The NDLEA’s Seaports Operations unit apprehended a 45-year-old Beninese, Jamila Fatiu, on Monday, December 4, at the Ebute Ero Jetty in Lagos Island.

Fatiu was in possession of 398 bottles of codeine cough syrup as she attempted to travel to the Seme border via a boat service.
