Elon Musk insist on Disney boss to be fired over ad spat

In a series of Twitter posts, Elon Musk has publicly demanded the immediate firing of Disney CEO Bob Iger following the company’s decision to cease advertising on Musk’s social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.

Musk, known for his outspoken demeanor, claimed that Walt Disney would be dismayed by Iger’s actions, stating that he has negatively impacted the media giant.

This comes just a week after Musk, in a profanity-laced outburst, urged companies participating in an advertising boycott against his platform to “Go [expletive] yourself.”

The ad boycott on Musk’s platform, formerly known as Twitter, was initiated by some companies expressing concerns over antisemitism.

Disney, which joined the boycott, has not yet responded to Musk’s recent remarks.

Bob Iger returned to Disney over a year ago for a second stint, facing challenges such as job cuts and weak box-office performances.

In his initial leadership role, Iger was credited for major acquisitions, including Pixar, Marvel, 21st Century Fox, and Lucasfilm, significantly increasing the company’s market value.

Musk’s criticism also touched on recent box-office performances of Disney films, suggesting that Iger has dropped “more bombs than a B-52.”

Musk accused Disney of advertising on platforms that allow controversial content.

Last week, at an event in New York, Musk vehemently criticized companies, including Disney, Apple, and Comcast, for pausing advertising on his platform, accusing them of attempting to blackmail him.

He warned that such actions could lead to the demise of the social media platform.

Musk’s recent visit to Israel followed controversy over his apparent endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

Despite denying the post was antisemitic, Musk apologized, acknowledging it might have been the “dumbest” thing he had shared online.

This incident led to a decline in ad revenue on Musk’s platform, as he acknowledged in a July post that ad revenue had fallen by 50%.

Musk’s combative presence on social media has also created challenges for his other companies, including Tesla.

In 2018, Musk and Tesla paid $40 million to settle charges of defrauding investors. As part of the settlement, Musk agreed to establish a process for greater oversight of his social media posts about Tesla.

Musk has sought to end this agreement, arguing that it infringes on his constitutional right to free speech, and has taken the appeal to the Supreme Court. It remains uncertain whether the court will agree to review the case.
