The Bauchi State Police command has apprehended a 35-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his wife using a pestle.
According to a statement from the state police command spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, Tijjani Ahmadu Diye had purportedly planned to kill his wife, liquidate their household television, and utilize the proceeds to outfit his shop.

“Detectives from ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi arrested Tijjani Ahmadu Diye, 35, on December 2, 2023, for assault, causing grievous hurt, and attempting to commit an offence, namely culpable homicide.
The victim was promptly evacuated to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for necessary medical attention upon receiving the report.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that the suspect readily confessed to the allegations against him.
In his admission, the suspect falsely raised an alarm about armed robbers entering their house.
Swiftly entering the bedroom, he instructed his wife to cover her head with a scarf.
He exited the room, concealed his face with a scarf, armed himself with a pestle, returned to the bedroom, and began assaulting her with the pestle.

The suspect further acknowledged his intention to incapacitate her and then take their television to sell, aiming to generate funds to furnish his shop.”
Wakil stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the case’s transfer to the State Criminal Investigation for further probing and subsequent charging of the suspect in court.
