Keyamo hold meeting with aviation agency amid growing safety concerns

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called for a meeting with heads of aviation regulatory agencies to address safety concerns within the sector.

The meeting aims to conduct a thorough assessment of recent incidents, particularly the diversion of the United Nigeria Airlines’ Lagos-Abuja flight to Asaba due to poor weather conditions.

Flight NUA 0504, which departed from the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Terminal 2, bound for Abuja, was grounded at the Asaba International Airport, causing confusion among passengers.

Keyamo expressed his concerns over safety issues in the aviation sector as raised by the public and announced the summoning of regulatory agency heads to his office.

The meeting is intended to review incidents leading to these concerns, implement measures to prevent future occurrences, and apply necessary sanctions for past incidents.

This move by the minister comes in response to recent reports highlighting the growing frequency of runway slips, crash landings, and other safety-related incidents in the aviation sector.

The concerns raised by passengers and stakeholders, as well as challenges in infrastructure, management, and navigational safety, will likely be addressed during the meeting to ensure the safety and security of air travel in Nigeria.
