Yusuf submits N24 billion supplementary budget to Kano assembly

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, has presented a second supplementary budget for the year 2023, amounting to N24 billion, to the State House of Assembly.

The submission was made on Tuesday during a plenary session in Kano and was officially communicated by the Speaker, Alhaji Ismail Falgore.

Falgore informed the assembly that the governor sought approval in line with Section 122 (A) & (B) of the 1999 Constitution.

He stated, “In pursuance of Section 122 (A) & (B) of the 1999 Constitution, I have the honor and privilege to submit to the House the Kano State proposed 2023 second Supplementary Budget/Amendment bill for deliberations and subsequent approval.”

Explaining the need for the supplementary budget, Falgore outlined factors such as anticipated receipts from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in the form of statutory revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Ecological funds, E.M.T.L, Independent Power Projects loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The Speaker emphasized that the 2023 second Supplementary Budget Amendment was necessitated by compelling needs, including settling gratuities and addressing personnel costs, allocating N4 billion, and supplementing capital expenditure with N20 billion.

With this additional budget, the total budget size for 2023 now stands at N350 billion, combining the original budget, the first supplementary budget of N58 billion, and the current N24 billion.

The House unanimously agreed to subject the 2023 supplementary/amendment budget to legislative action
