KCCN empowers Lagos and Abuja students through Taekwondo training

The Korea Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) is actively engaged in a taekwondo training initiative for selected public schools in Lagos State and Abuja from November 15 to November 24.

The project, aimed at fostering grassroots development of taekwondo in Nigeria, involves termly training sessions for specific Basic schools in the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos.

In a statement released by the KCCN in Abuja, the organization expressed its commitment to developing taekwondo at the grassroots level in Nigeria.

The selected schools for the KCCN Public School Taekwondo Project include Nigeria-Korea Model School in Piwoyi, Lugbe Road Abuja; Junior Secondary School Maitama Abuja; LEA Wuse Zone 3 Abuja; LEA Maitama Abuja; LEA Wuse Zone 2 Abuja; Boys Junior Academy in Mandillas, Lagos Island; and Kuramo Junior High School in Sandfill, Victoria Island Lagos.

While the Abuja training project has been ongoing for five years, the Lagos training initiative commenced in June 2023.

The current training session for the first term of the 2023/24 academic year is scheduled to conclude on Friday, November 24, 2023.

Each participating school enlists forty students who receive training under the guidance of experienced taekwondo instructors.

The KCCN provides support for the project by regularly supplying schools with uniforms, first-aid kits, and other taekwondo training accessories to enhance students’ interest and skills.

A biennial U-15 Taekwondo championship is a significant event for students from these schools, with the most recent edition taking place in November 2022 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The next edition is expected to occur toward the end of 2024.
