Appeal court upholds Sanwo-Olu’s election as governor of Lagos

The Lagos Appeal Court has upheld the tribunal’s ruling, affirming the election victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat as Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State, respectively.

The court rejected the appeal filed by Olajide Adediran, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging Sanwo-Olu’s election.

In a unanimous decision delivered by the three-member panel led by Yargata Nimpa, the court dismissed the grounds of appeal raised by Adediran, also known as Jandor. Justices Yargata Nimpa, Samuel Bola, and Paul Bassey collectively rendered the judgment.

This development follows the earlier decision by the tribunal, which had validated Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 11 election.

The justices maintained that the appellants, PDP and Adeniran, failed to substantiate their claims, stating, “Even though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants still failed to prove them.

The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed. They merely enjoyed their day in court. Their petition is dismissed.”
