Nigerian author and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, expressed concerns about the impact of technology on literacy during the closing ceremony of the 3rd Intra-African Trade Fair in Cairo, Egypt.
Soyinka acknowledged the positive aspects of technology, citing examples like the Arab Spring, but also criticized what he referred to as the “Internet culture.”

He warned against the degradation of meaningful culture, emphasizing that this new culture could lead to the creation of a generation of illiterates who devalue genuine creativity and intellectual development.
Soyinka urged society to be vigilant and not trivialize the challenges posed by the abuse of culture facilitated by Internet technology.
