Dangote refinery staff member fatally struck by hit-and-run driver in Lagos

Joseph Ameh, a staff member of Dangote Refinery, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos state on Thursday.

The unfortunate event unfolded as Ameh was walking along Golf Bustop on Lekki Epe Expressway when an unidentified driver struck him and swiftly fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses recount that the driver, realizing the severity of the accident, hastily left the location in his private vehicle, eluding any attempts by onlookers to apprehend him.

A witness to the incident shared, “It happened about 7 pm last night that one guy was just walking on the pedestrian side of the road near Golf Bustop when suddenly a speeding private vehicle ran into him.”

Efforts to pursue the fleeing driver were in vain, as he managed to escape at high speed.

It was later, when officers from the Elemero Police Station arrived to clear the site, that Ameh’s identity was revealed through his Dangote Cement staff ID card.

The victim, aged 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the bruised body of Joseph Ameh has been removed from the road and transferred to the Epe General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

The deceased’s family was contacted using a phone discovered on his person, and an active investigation has been launched to apprehend the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.

The authorities are determined to bring justice to the tragic situation.
