A tragic incident unfolded at Government Model School in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state, as a secondary school teacher was fatally stabbed by a former student who is currently at large.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the incident on Thursday, revealing that the teacher was attacked while inside a tricycle, following a prior altercation with the student.
According to Usman, the former student collaborated with accomplices to carry out the stabbing.

The altercation escalated during the attack, resulting in the teacher being stabbed. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, the teacher was pronounced dead.
In response to the distressing event, Governor Agbu Kefas expressed mourning for the deceased teacher in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Mr. Emmanuel Bello.
The governor issued a directive banning assault weapons such as knives, machetes, and daggers in Jalingo and its surroundings.

An investigation into the incident has been ordered, along with enhanced security surveillance to prevent similar attacks in the future.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, condemned the assault, emphasizing the longstanding concern for the security of staff and students at Science School Jalingo and other educational institutions.
She advocated for the deployment of armed and unarmed security agents, including Civil Defence/Peace Corps, particularly in the vicinity of Jalingo.
