Bayelsa Youths Vanguard, a group representing the youth in Bayelsa State, has vehemently pledged to resist any attempts to manipulate the upcoming governorship election on Saturday.

The commitment comes in the wake of a disturbing viral video circulating on social media, showcasing violent clashes between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and suspected thugs in Brass Local Government.

The clashes, reportedly orchestrated by unidentified assailants, resulted in several injuries, heightening concerns about the potential impact on the electoral process.

Brass was previously identified as one of the five critical flashpoints under security surveillance by the election monitoring group, CellHub.

In response to the escalating violence, President of the Bayelsa Youths Vanguard, Alakiri ThankGod, issued a statement on Friday condemning the attacks.

He emphasized the group’s dedication to ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process in the state.

“We strongly condemn the violent attacks on innocent PDP supporters in Brass.

Such actions have no place in a democratic society, and we will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the will of the people.

We vow to resist any form of election rigging and call on law enforcement agencies to immediately apprehend those responsible for these attacks,” ThankGod declared.

The group further urged its members and prospective voters to remain calm and peaceful, underscoring the significance of conducting a violence-free election.

In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) assured residents of heightened security measures in Brass and other potentially volatile areas ahead of the scheduled governorship election on Saturday.

Police authorities have also issued a warning, stating their commitment to identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of the recent attacks, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order during the electoral process.
