Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, commenced the construction of cluster settlements for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State on Thursday.
The minister’s two-day visit to the state included the unveiling of the project at Mbagwen in the Makurdi Local Government Area.
During the foundation-laying ceremony, Dr. Edu conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to resettling displaced persons, addressing the concerns of those who have been uprooted from their ancestral homes.

She emphasized President Tinubu’s dedication to collaborating with Governor Hyacinth Alia to facilitate the return of the displaced people.
Dr. Edu expressed the sentiment that it is time for the people of Benue, who have endured prolonged suffering, to experience relief and the beginning of a journey back home.
She stressed the President’s vision of ensuring that the resettled individuals live in proper homes rather than makeshift shelters, empowering them to rebuild their lives and contribute to the nation’s food production.
In response to the ongoing attacks since 2010, heightened in 2016, Governor Hyacinth Alia acknowledged President Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling the promise of returning people to their ancestral homes.
