Irish chef Alan Fisher, sets new guinness world record for longest cooking marathon

An Irish chef, Alan Fisher, based in Japan, has made headlines by setting two Guinness World Records for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

The Guinness World Records (GWR) made this announcement via its official website on Tuesday.

Fisher’s extraordinary culinary marathon lasted a remarkable 119 hours and 57 minutes, breaking the previous record of 93 hours and 11 minutes, which had been set by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci earlier in the year.

But Fisher’s achievements didn’t stop there. He also claimed the world record for the longest baking marathon, spending an impressive 47 hours and 21 minutes in continuous baking, surpassing the previous record of 31 hours and 16 minutes.

What makes Fisher’s accomplishments even more remarkable is that he undertook both record attempts back-to-back, spending over 160 consecutive hours in the kitchen.

These impressive feats took place at Fisher’s restaurant, Kyojin Stewhouse, where he serves traditional Irish dishes.

The motivation behind his challenge was to recover from the hardships brought about by the pandemic, which had nearly forced him to close his business.

In his quest to set these records, Fisher prepared more than 550 kilograms of food, consisting of 3,360 portions of 32 different Irish recipes.

Throughout this extraordinary journey, the support of his local community played a vital role in keeping him going, even when faced with fatigue and hallucinations.

Fisher shared his determination, saying, “I was representing myself, my family, and Irish food, and sharing our story. I couldn’t give up. That was the only option.”

Guinness World Records commended Fisher’s “incredible feat of endurance” in the culinary world.
